Glayne springs to Alice

How you all doing? Well as my witty subject title suggests I am in Alice Springs, got here about 1.30pm today. Flew from Sydney took three hours didn't actually realise how far it was! So I have left Sydney for the time being, as you know I went to the bridge and the opera house and then booked one tour on Monday. On Tuesday I booked some more tours and accommodation, really nice travel agents, the bloke there (Eddy) who I thought was australian was actually from Essex got me a really good deal and invited me out that night...well it would have been rude not to after all his work so I dossed the rest of the day through exhaustion (really hard life) met some lovely people in the hostel and hung out with them before going out with Eddy and a load of other travellers, had good fun. Then yesterday as my last day in Sydney I headed off to Bondi Beach so have done the big three as it were. Absolutely beautiful beach but so cold! Apparently Australia have had an awful summer and haven't had a winter this cold for 5 years.....awesome!

Bondi

So now I am in ALice for two nights and it is a bit of a culture shock! The aborigines leave a hell of a lot to be desired...although as a horrible culture destroying brit I had better be careful on that one. Anyway I have just been to see the sunset on Anzac hill then tomorrow am off camel riding before being picked up by 'groovy grape tours' who I will be with for 5 days touring down to Adelaide, this involves Ayers rock, national park and kangaroo orphanage, we will be camping in 'swags' so no internet until I get to Adelaide on 9th. Im in Adelaide for 5 days, I go to Barossa valley (the wine region) on the 11th then have 3 more days, wasn't what I would have picked but just the way dates worked out, off t kangaroo island for one night and two days before one more day in Adelaide then a 3 day tour along the great ocean road....that is where the apostles are so cant wait. Will get into Melbourne on the 20th August

G'day

Hello all!

Well it has been absolutely ages since I have blogged and not even sure why!

For the past month i have been in Australia which was absolutely amazing. completely not planned, booked a flight to Sydney in June and left in July so to bring you upto date here are some ramblings I shared with other people while I was away.

So here i am in Sydney now been here about 24 hours! Flight was good...if long. Flew with a company called Ethiad? Never head of them but they were very good, Virgin Australia it turns out are their 'sister comany' as are air Berlin which seemed quite strange since i was there a few weeks ago. Anyhoo good films 'Best exotic marigold hotel' in which I genuinely laughed out loud; best line, 'if I want your opinion I will tell you what it is' also watched 5 back to back episodes of Miranda which I like and listened to a few albums. Was well worried about using up batteries of kindle and ipod and being stuck twiddling my thumbs but only had the kindle on once in Abu Dhabi airport, in flight entertainment sorted me the rest of the time. Abu Dhabi was not overly exciting........was there for 15 hours, 20 on the way back..great stuff! Of course its Ramada as well so I felt a bit self conscious eating because I was surrounded by some very hungry people.

So got the the airport got let into the country and went to get the train which the lonely planet recommend only to be told there was no train but a free bus service! There were so apologetic I was like free.....hello! Hostel is about a 5 minute walk and clean and friendly enough. Did very little last night then woke up my time at 5.29am, forced myself to go back to sleep till 9ish then got up. Got a free breakfast from the nice girl on reception then she suggested doing a bit of walking to get myself acclimatised so walk I did, walked down to the harbour and opera house then into the Royal botanical gardens and across to the rocks, grabbed some lunch and headed back. popped into a backpacker travel place on the way back and booked a tour from Alice Springs to Adelaide which does the rock, bushwalking and you get to go to a kangaroo orphanage!!!!!
